The federation would like to build a new stadium on the site of Pimpet, but this does not seem possible. The municipality of Forst is causing difficulties.
Union SG has plans to build a new stadium in Bemptsite, but for the first time this doesn’t seem to be happening yet. Union CEO Philip Borremans was not happy with the position of the Forest municipality.
“The situation is simple and very sad. We have done everything necessary. The region also put pressure, but the municipality did not put the issue on the agenda. The file remains pending until after the elections,” he said, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
“The municipality always claims that it wants to negotiate. But that is not the case. It has refused to make a decision for six years, even though it is part of its duties. We have been waiting for a concrete decision, positive or negative. For six years, then you cannot say that you are cooperating openly.”
Bormans says the union can’t work on its future this way. “It’s impossible to make long-term plans,” says Bormans.
He concluded: “We have to tour Belgium for our European matches. The stadium issue is the biggest risk to the club in the long term.”
