JK Rowling walked the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall in London in an elegant blue dress and cape on Tuesday. There was the premiere of the new movie Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. She performed there alongside actors Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Mads Mikkelsen.
The fact that the writer was present at the event is pretty amazing to say the least. Because even though she portrays the popular movie series and is also the godmother of “Harry Potter” (which, by the way, is set in the same wizarding world), she’s been under fire last year for statements about transgender people. At the end of 2019, she criticized an article on social media in which the description of ‘menstruating women’ appeared. She joked that there is a word for it after all, referring to women. Critics blamed it on her because transgender men can also menstruate. Several members of the “Harry Potter” cast, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have distanced themselves from her statements.
Criticism also prevented J.K. Rowling from attending the Harry Potter meeting for ten years. The entire cast showed up for it, but only a few short interview parts were cut from the past from the writer.
