Ronnie Deila has been sacked as coach of Club Brugge. Karel Geraerts is one of the possible successors mentioned.
Ronnie Deila's season at Club Brugge eventually lasted until the end of the regular competition in the Jupiler Pro League. Nicky Hayne takes over qualifier duties, but in the meantime several names of potential successors have been mentioned.
Karel Geraerts is one of the names mentioned to succeed Ronnie Deila at the Blue Black. At Schalke 04, according to some rumours, he could be replaced by… Hein Vanhisbrouck.
“Hassey goes to Gent, Lechoux leaves Standard, and Van Bommel won't stay in Antwerp either. Well, I'm not losing sleep over it,” Geraarts himself tells HUMO.
Gerarts wants an ambitious project
And although he doesn't sleep over it, he doesn't deny the rumors either. “I don't have a career plan, football is too fickle for that. Decisions in football are often driven by emotions. You can plan as much as you want, but more often than not it won't work out. When something comes your way, the only question you care about is : To jump or not to jump?
Gerarts is a winner, but he must also be able to enjoy himself. “If I can no longer do it, it will stop. The winner in me wants to be able to go to the stands and think: ‘Wow!’ And I should feel ambitious.”
He really likes the way he has to do his work in Germany. “The ambition at Schalke is clear: to return to the Bundesliga. This creates pressure, but does it paralyze me? No, on the contrary: I enjoy it.
