Tess Elst succeeds Karl Vannewoekerke on the evening programming of the European Championships. She is responsible for these important matches, such as the European Championship final on Sunday between Spain and England.

Tess feels like a fish in water, but she also has to deal with criticism. On social media, she seems to have a lisp and her rolling around bothers her. “I don’t read anything on the internet,” she replied to Het Laatste Nieuws.

“But I have already been asked about that ‘r’. I am not worried about it, it is just there and I will not change it anymore. Like every screen face, I have followed speech therapy and passed the tests and fortunately the days when the uvula was forbidden on TV are over.”

Elst loves to do shows, but it’s not her ultimate dream. “I had to think about it because it was never my ambition,” she says. “And that hasn’t changed really. It’s nice to be able to get more involved in the field in this role, but if someone tells me tomorrow that I have to write behind the scenes again, that’s fine.
