KLM already competes with easyJet on the route to Venice (Italy), but the European Sleeper rail company will join them in February.
The route to the Italian city departs from Brussels twice a week at 5 p.m. Although the train does not pass through Amsterdam, it visits other cities, such as Antwerp, Rotterdam and Utrecht. After the latter, the European sleeper enters Germany and passes through Cologne, Munich, Innsbruck (Austria), Bolzano (Italy) and Verona. The next day the train arrives in Venice at 2:00 p.m. The return journey, also twice a week, departs at 3:00 p.m. and the train arrives in Brussels at 11:00 a.m. the next day. The journey includes the same intermediate stops.
Winter
From February 5, European Sleeper will compete with KLM and easyJet on this route. According to VRT.be This period was chosen because this is the winter sports season. In addition, the spring break is held and the annual Venice Carnival is celebrated from February 22 to March 4. European Sleeper expects that the demand for tickets on this route will be high during these periods. For this reason, the railway company rents extra carriages during these months. When the hustle and bustle is over, European Sleeper sends the carriages back to the rental company.
Ticket prices
It is not yet known how much train tickets will cost. More clarity is expected in September. KLM currently offers a flight from Schiphol to Venice for around 140 euros per person. On weekends, these prices can be several dozen euros higher, according to ticket sales on the website. KLM Company Website.
