Lotte Kopecky (28) remains loyal to Team SD Worx-Protime. The world champion extended her expiring contract until the end of 2028. “It makes sense to continue here.”
Lotte Kubicki's future was a topic at the start of 2024. Her previous contract expired at the end of this year and there was of course no shortage of interest from other teams. “Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some fresh air,” she said, and she didn't seem to rule out leaving.
But it doesn't come to that. At the press conference leading up to the Omloop tournament on Saturday, where she will defend her title, Kopecky announced that she had extended her contract with SD Worx-Protime. At least four years – she will continue racing for her current employer until the end of 2028. “I'm very happy,” the world champion said. “I don't find this confidence in any other team. So it makes sense to continue here.”
Kopecky has been competing with the team since the start of 2022, and has since risen to the top of women's cycling. It has won, among others, the Strade Bianche, the Tour of Flanders twice, and the Road World Championship in Glasgow. On the women's tour last year, she finished second in the final standings, after her colleague Demi Wohlring.
With this certainty about her future, Kopecky can start the Spring Classic without any worries. Are you looking forward to a new year of Grand Cru?
