OH Leuven had a turbulent season with several veterans leaving the club. It started with the departure of CEO Peter Willems, then coach Mark Preece was also fired and head of youth coaching Henk Mariemann chose to challenge at Anderlecht. Now they have lost another important pawn to Den Dreef.
The team that makes the sporting decisions has already lost three of its five pawns and now only head coach Ariel Jacobs remains. After all, the OHL is now also seeing Eddie Vanhemel leave.
The OHL is now also losing Vanhemel
The 54-year-old has served as the academy's head coach in recent years and has so far coached the Under-23s, which are competing at national level for the first time. In October and November he was also interim head coach of the first team. During that period he won two of his four matches.
Vanhemel will now start working at KRC Genk. There he is appointed head of football and youth development. It's a homecoming for him, as he has already worked there in the past as senior coordinator and coach of the under-17 team.
Jink brings him back
“In concrete terms, we expect Eddie to continue developing our football DNA through the attractive and attacking football we represent as KRC Genk,” explains Head Coach Roland Brugelmans.
“In addition, he will provide better guidance to our many coaches to put these principles into practice. As a teacher of the UEFA A course at Voetbal Vlaanderen, he is an authority in the world of Belgian football. In short, he is the ideal man to further shape the future of KRC Genk.”
