From the freezing Belgian cold to the Spanish sun. After Van der Poel rode his final cross of the winter season for the time being on January 7 – and won, of course – he returned to Spain to continue preparing for the upcoming road season. Long rides in nice temperatures, to lay good foundations for an important road campaign with big goals again.

Van der Poel often meets beautiful people on the Costa Blanca. In November, the world champion was seen there with Remco Evenepoel, and yesterday it was Tadej Pogacar's turn to hit the road with 'MVDP'. It is known that their relationship is good. Pogacar's teammates Pavel Sivakov and Jean Christin were also present. According to Sivakov's account on Strava, the Emirati riders undertook a ride of more than 156 kilometres, but it is not clear whether Van der Poel rode with them the entire time. The Dutchman hasn't posted anything on Strava for a while.

Pogacar begins the road season on March 2 at Strade Bianche. It is not yet clear whether he will meet Van der Poel for the first time in the race, as the world champion's schedule is not yet known. Van der Poel is initially focused on the end of his campaign with Benidorm next Sunday, Hamm and Hoogerheide the following weekend, and especially the World Championship in Tabor the following week, which is the main target for the winter.
