Luka Doncic’s Slovenia (Dallas Mavericks) and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece (Milwaukee Bucks) were placed in the same group in the draw for the Olympic qualifiers.
The Olympic basketball tournament will have to do without the NBA star.
Twenty-four countries were divided into four qualifiers. They first compete against each other in groups of three, with the top two playing in a cross-over. Only the winner of the tournament will qualify for the Games in Paris.
Greece hosts a tournament and in Biraeus, apart from Slovenia, it will also face the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Croatia and New Zealand.
Qualification match In Valencia (Spain):
- Group A: Lebanon, Angola, Spain
- Group B: Finland, Poland, Bahamas
Qualifiers in Riga (Latvia):
- Group A: Georgia, Philippines, Latvia
- Group B: Brazil, Cameroon, Montenegro
Qualification in Piraeus (Greece):
- Group A: Slovenia, New Zealand, Croatia
- Group B: Egypt, Greece, Dominican Republic
Qualifier in San Juan (Puerto Rico).
- Group A: Mexico, Ivory Coast, Lithuania
- Group B: Italy, Puerto Rico, Bahrain
The Belgian Lions were already eliminated from participation in the Games in a prequalification tournament in Istanbul.
