June 26, 2024 The A13 San Bernardino in Switzerland will likely be closed for several months.
The A13 Chur – Bellinzona (San Bernardino Tunnel Road) is close to Mesocco in both directions. Part of the highway was completely swept away during the storms that occurred in recent days. Local police said that repairing the road would take months.
Our Swiss sister organization TCS therefore expects additional delays on the A2 Lucerne-Chiasso route near the St. Gotthard Tunnel this summer. Wait time updates can be followed via ANWB Europe Traffic Information on X (formerly Twitter).
Depending on the destination, holiday traffic can choose other routes:
- Via the A12 Bern-Montreux via the Grote Sint Bernardtunnel
- Using the Kandersteg-Goppenstein car train via the Lötschbergtunnel (30 euros), then via the Simplon Pass or Simplnautotunnel
- Via Austria A13 Innsbruck-Bolzano via the Brenner Pass
- Via France Lyon-Chambéry, Mont Blanc Tunnel RN206
- Via France Lyon-Grenoble Fréjus Tunnel
On the map below, you can see which route has been affected by the closure and where additional crowds are expected. Use the ANWB route planner or the free Onderweg app to plan an alternative route.
