Matthew van der Poel and Demi Vollering have expanded their title wardrobe significantly in the past year.
After Van der Poel won the rainbow jersey on court for the fifth time in his career, he also claimed the world title on the road. In between, he won the monuments Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix.
More than enough to be voted Dutch Rider of the Year for the third time in his career.
The women’s title went to Fullering for the first time. She has won top races such as Strade Bianche, Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. To add the tour to her list of accomplishments this summer.
Bouk Pieterse, who won the Mountain Biking World Cup, was awarded the Greatest Talent award. Jumbo-Visma went home as the top team.
Demi Wohlring and Annemieke van Vleuten also received a Royal Medal. Fullering was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Van Vleuten goes one step higher. The former cycling champion has now been appointed a Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Only chess player Max Euwe and skater Irene Fust have received the same award for their sporting achievements.
