Nothing seems too crazy for an AI. Last week, 22-year-old pop star Marcy Cortega suddenly appeared. Literally out of nowhere. Because Marcy is made entirely of artificial intelligence. On Thursday, she released six songs at once, and may soon appear on stage thanks to 3D performances.
Six years ago, creator Peter Marneff (40) wrote a fantasy series. In that series, the main character Emily becomes jealous of her virtual alter ego, named Marcy. However, the world was not yet ready for a Peter series. It was very expensive to implement and AI was probably still too unknown.
However, Peter did not give up on the idea. Six years later, he decided to treat Marcy differently launch. He created a character, created a face and body via artificial intelligence, and a number of pop songs. Peter’s wife is a plastic surgeon. She told him that the first version of Marcy was too idealistic to be realistic. That’s why Marcy’s jawline has been trimmed slightly and the end result is a fresh young lady with blue and pink hair.
Although Marcy currently only exists online, creator Peter wants to connect with the real world as much as possible. Yesterday she released her first video. In it you see her delivering a message to her future fans in English: “Hey guys, I just released my debut album Rise Up and Shine. It’s about new beginnings, embracing yourself and girl power. Please follow my page and stay updated.”“
Marcy’s voice was trained on Peter’s wife’s voice. This summer, we hope to have the artist on stage for the first time via 3D projections. It remains to be seen whether people in Spain actually know that a pop star with Spanish roots has appeared in Belgium.
