After March 14, 2025, Michel Heismann could return to competition. The 23-year-old German rider has been sidelined for some time after showing abnormal values during a doping test. Visma-Lease a Bike, whose contract expires at the end of this year, indicates that they will part ways.
The case surrounding Michael Heismann can finally be put to rest. On June 14, 2023, it became known that traces of a diuretic agent were found during an out-of-competition test on the young German, under contract with Visma-Lease a Bike.
What followed was a procedural battle in which all parties were left in the dark for a long time. The investigation is now complete and sanctions have been imposed.
“Both NADA (German Anti-Doping Agency) and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) have concluded that Heisman likely took contaminated medication such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or naproxen,” Visma-Lease a Bike explained in a press release.
“The German justice system had previously dismissed the case. In June 2024, NADA suspended the rider for four months, with a three-month retrospective effect, which will allow him to return to the courts at the end of July.”
“However, WADA appealed this decision, and subsequently the competitor and WADA reached a settlement and the competitor will remain suspended until March 14, 2025.”
Heisman will be able to race again from mid-March next year, but he will have to find a new employer. “He will no longer race for Visma-Lease a Bike,” the statement concluded.
