Mischa Bredewold forms the second stage of the Baloise Women’s Tour. After 117 kilometers towards Iklo, the Dutchman was the strongest of the group of 3 people.
For the first stage in the line, Jolien Verschueren was honored for the first time. The cyclocross contestant lost her battle with cancer a week ago at the age of 31.
The riders were given 9 laps in Eeklo, which is good for 117 kilometers of the race. Femke Marus and Demi de Jong tried solo, but to no avail.
In the last round the prize was for 3 fugitives. Misha Bredewold, Quinte Tun and our compatriot Kelly Van den Steen chose the open sea. They kept a small lead on the raging peloton and so we set off at speed 3.
Misha Bredewold was by far the strongest in the field. It ended before Ton and Van Den Steen. And so it doubled, because the captain’s shirt is now her share.

Van den Steen: “Bredewold is a deserved winner”
“I’ve always been instructed to keep working at the front of the team car,” Kelly van den Steen said afterwards. “I knew right away that Bredewold was the strongest of our three, but you never know. In the last kilometer, she played on surprise by going from behind and from very far. However, she was able to stay ahead. The winner.”
In the general classification, Van Den Steen follows Bredewold in 24 seconds. “I shouldn’t have too many illusions about that. My goal was to win the day.”
