Of the 407,765 vaccinated against the coronavirus in Flanders who had already received or had scheduled a third vaccination, 54,304 – 13.32 percent – did not appear. This was announced by Dirk Deolph, CEO of the Flemish Health and Welfare Agency, during a press conference.

It’s for people who have received a message for the booster shot for which a moment has already been scheduled for them, or who have scheduled an appointment themselves. It may concern people who intentionally ignored the invitation, but also forgotten or unread invitations. So far, 3,066 people have explicitly stated that they don’t want a booster injection, on more than 1 million invitations.
Meanwhile, according to the agency, 580,401 booster vaccines have already been administered in Flanders. This is 8.72 percent of the total population. The Flemish government hopes that 2.5 million Flemish people will have a third shot by the end of the year. This applies to nursing home residents, health care workers, people over 65, people with immune problems, and people who have previously received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Flemish Health Minister Wouter Beke (CD&V) also wants to offer as many people as possible who have received AstraZeneca a rapid booster vaccine this year. The Joint Ministerial Conference on Public Health will make a decision on this on 27 November. This is a fairly large group: 883,000 Flemish people received the AstraZeneca vaccine, including 313,000 who were not 65 years old and who were not healthcare providers.
