The National Crime Agency, working with the FBI and the Northern Irish Police Force, has taken the digitalstress.su domain of a DDoS service of the same name offline. It is said to be one of the largest DDoS services in the world, responsible for tens of thousands of attacks every week.
The British police service said it was able to infiltrate the organization behind the service and thus take control of the domain. Users of the service are warned via a message on the hacked website that their data has been passed on to the relevant investigative services. The police service also displays a warning text message sent to potential users of the DDoS service.
According to the National Control Agency The criminals behind the service chose the .su domain on the assumption that the old Soviet Union domain name would be an obstacle for the investigation services. However, according to the service, these domains are vulnerable and therefore the criminals responsible can be identified. It is not clear to what extent the relevant investigation services have caught all the criminals behind the DDoS service. In a message to users, the NCA wrote that the relevant services caught the “alleged operator” of the DDoS service on July 2.
Update at 2pmInformation about the arrest of the potential perpetrator has been added.
