Quality is of course subjective too, what I’m asking for (and seeing as quality in a series) is definitely not what anyone else would think. Even Kim Kardashian’s content can be of poor quality in your opinion (I’m following you on that by the way) but that doesn’t mean all those 256 million followers think so or have no idea what the quality is.In fact, quality and entertainment can also be far apart, for example, a series doesn’t have to be qualitatively (still objective) very well to be liked and thus get many views.
It’s really objective, but the average person on this planet watches reality or talk shows, which isn’t wrong, but it does display the low level of entertainment they consume. When I look at TV shows in Holland, I think of it myself “Why would anyone waste their time on this?” – But there is clearly an audience for her.
In the end, truth is not what one considers objective, but numbers. You don’t think Bridgerton and Kim offer quality, the sight of this stuff might push Chernobyl straight to the ground..
The numbers give a distorted picture, if you look at Bridgeton’s ratings you would expect a series that is highly appreciated by fans and frequently reviewed on the biggest TV series sites, but in reality this is not the case.
Bridgeton:
Rotten Tomatoes (Fan Points): 72% – 1,581 votes
IMDB: 7.3 – 88,026 votes
Metacritic: 5.5 – 77 votes
number of votes: 89.684
the magician:
Rotten Tomatoes (Fan Points): 91% – 20,218 votes
IMDB: 8.2 – 349,702 votes
Metacritic: 7.3 – 3476 votes
number of votes: 373.396
So a series that attracts 8%~more viewers has roughly 76%~less votes on these sites and also gets lower average rating. In my view, this is really a “red flag”, a series that attracts a lot of audience but receives relatively few votes, apparently not something that would appeal to die-hard series viewers.
Bottom line, more people are watching Bridgerton because they seem to like it or simply because the Netflix audience is bigger for this series than all of you mentioned 🙂
In the end you have to look at what you want, even among the best series (in qualitative terms) there will be something that you do not like at all. For example The Expanse if you are not a fan of science fiction to name a few.
