MovieThe project for the next Star Wars movie was delayed. ‘Rogue Squadron’ was scheduled to be released in December 2023, but Disney pulled the movie from its schedule on Monday.
The reason may be that director Patti Jenkins cannot start the film in 2022 as previously planned. She also has two more projects planned with actress Gal Gadot: a movie about Cleopatra and a third part of the hit Wonder Woman series. It is not clear if both titles now take precedence over the “Star Wars” films.
Rogue Squadron will be the first Star Wars movie after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, which concluded the Skywalker saga more than 40 years later. The project was announced at the end of 2020 and Jenkins announced last summer that the script, which she’s working on with Matthew Robinson, was well ahead.
Producer Lucasfilm, who has been part of Disney since 2012, hasn’t revealed if he’ll start on another movie first after the Rogue Squadron movie was delayed. The studio has several options on the shelf. It became clear earlier that Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and director Taika Waititi both have a “Star Wars” project in development.
