Winter has begun in New Zealand, which is reflected in milk production, which reached a seasonal low in June. That month’s supply was the lowest since 2019. In Australia, production is higher than last year.
In recent months, New Zealand’s milk supply has already lagged significantly, falling more than 6% in May compared to the same period last year. June saw a 1.1% contraction to 228,000 tonnes. This is the lowest seasonal trough since 2019. Generally, production will pick up again in the coming months and peak in October and November.

‘Neighboring’ Australia has a similar seasonal pattern. Supply figures for the month prior to May saw production at 645.1 million litres. This is a 3% increase compared to the same month in 2023. Throughout the year, production is ahead of previous years. This is mainly due to relatively good availability of water. More favorable prices for animal feed and fertilizer play a role, local analysts note.
