Tears of happiness after a turbulent evening. Nina Derwael finished fourth on the uneven bars in the final. A big relief after months of injuries and uncertainty. Earlier in the evening, she also had to deal with a fall on beam. Maellyse Brassart also fell on beam during the bridge warm-up. No end for her.
All the emotions came out of Nina Druehl. The relief the defending Olympic champion felt after her beautiful uneven bars workout was immense.
After having shoulder surgery late last year, it was a race against time to make it to the Olympics. Reaching the final was no easy task, but Druehl showed what an unlikely champion she is.
With a top score of 14,733 points, she qualified for the final in fourth place. Next Sunday (August 4) Druel could be in the medal fight again.
But the evening got off to a false start for Druil. During her beam practice, she fell immediately after her jump and although she recovered after a strong workout, she was allowed to forget about the final ticket.

Prasart shows mental flexibility.
Maellyse Brassart also did not make a strong impression on beam. Her vault was hesitant and after a mistake she also fell off beam. The beam final was too high for her too, although her focus was on a ticket to the all-around final.
With a clever ground exercise, Brassart managed to foil her. Through the beam exercise she also achieved her expectations on the vault. However, she did not come very close to the overall final.
During the warm-up on the uneven bars, Brassart stunned everyone, including Nina Druel, with a painful fall on her head.
Once she recovered, she showed mental resilience with smart training. She won the sympathy of the audience, but it did not result in a ticket to the all-around final.

Druel to the final!

Talk about mental resilience! Brassart shows off her character and performs an almost flawless workout on the uneven bars. She is rewarded with a good score of 13,766 points.

Painful moment during the warm-up on the Mailles-Brassart bridge. She has an unfortunate fall on her head and is lying down. The Belgian delegation is immediately there to take care of her. Nina Druel also looks on worriedly.

The moment of truth is approaching for Nina Derwael. She will soon be second, behind Myles Brassart, to compete on the uneven bars. To secure a spot in the final, she will need to do better than Simone Biles, who is currently eighth with 14,433 points. With a score above 14,600, she is almost certain to secure a ticket to the final.

A big smile on her face. She is clearly pleased with her jump. The jury also appreciated the exercise. Brassart received 13,300 points for it.
Getting a ticket to the overall final will be almost impossible. She is currently only 50th in the standings.
Maellyse Brassart is aiming for around 13,400 points on vault. Can she meet those expectations right away?

The second turn is over, and in the third turn Maellyse awaits the jump. Only in the fourth and final turn does Nina Druel return to work again on the uneven bars.

Beautiful floor exercise from Brassart
Great workout with beautiful choreography by Brassart. The disappointment of the beam workout doesn’t seem to be completely resolved yet, but she can certainly be satisfied with that. Brassart got 12.533 points for that, which was pretty much what she meant.
