A Ubisoft spokesperson said: “We are aware of a suspected incident affecting data security and are currently investigating it.” According to the specialized website Vx Underground, hackers attempted to steal approximately 900 gigabytes of data from Ubisoft servers until the company's security teams closed the vulnerability.

Last week, Insomniac Games, a subsidiary of the Japanese company Sony, fell victim to a large-scale hacking operation. Because the company refused to pay for the ransomware, the hackers released sensitive information about the company and the studio's future projects, such as the Wolverine and Spider-man 3 games.

Insomniac Games said in a post on X that it was “saddened and angry at the same time” about the attack. “We know that the stolen data contains personal information of our employees, former employees and independent entrepreneurs. Other gaming companies have also previously fallen victim to data breaches.
