filmAn intern accidentally revealed a possible release date for the long-awaited fifth part of the beloved “Shrek” film series. The green swamp monster will likely return to cinemas fifteen years after Shrek Forever After.
Although it was already known that DreamWorks was working on a new film titled “Shrek,” no one knew when the film would be released. Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of animation studio Illumination, told trade magazine Variety in April that a new film was in the works, but not many details were known.
The NBCUniversal intern posted on her LinkedIn profile the accomplishments she achieved during her internship. One of the projects I worked on was “Shrek 5”. “DreamWorks Animation 2025,” with that little sentence revealing that the film would indeed be released in 2025. She promptly deleted the message, but the damage had already been done. Many screenshots are circulating on the Internet.

The first “Shrek” movie premiered in 2001 and tells the story of the green swamp monster Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) who must rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from her high tower. Along the way he befriends Donkey Donkey (Eddie Murphy). Four films have been made about Shrek, the last of which was released in 2010. There have also been two spin-offs and a series about Puss in Boots (Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas).
