The solar eclipse will occur between 11:19 AM and 1:31 PM. The climax of the eclipse is at 12:23 p.m., when the moon covers the top of the sun.
The moon in front of the sun
During a solar eclipse, the moon passes in front of the sun. The moon will pass the sun from right to left.
First, the right side of the sun is partially obscured by the moon’s shadow. At 12:23 p.m., the moon covers the top of the sun. Then the moon moves to the left and the shadow also disappears across the left side of the sun.
The time difference between north and south
The time when the eclipse can be seen varies between northern Holland and southern Holland. In the south, a solar eclipse also lasts more than seven minutes shorter than in the northern Netherlands. The reason for this time difference is the curvature of the Earth.
At the height of the eclipse, 17 percent of the sun’s total surface was covered. Weerplaza warns not to look directly at a solar eclipse. “During such an eclipse, it is harmful to the eyes to look at the sun for a long time. For this reason, it is recommended to wear eclipse glasses if you want to watch the eclipse.” These glasses are on sale in many online stores.
Next solar eclipse
Since it’s been nearly six years since a solar eclipse occurred, enthusiasts don’t have to wait long for the phenomenon to appear this time around. The next eclipse will occur on October 25, 2022, and can also be seen from the Netherlands.
In this eclipse, the Sun will block the Sun for about 22 percent. So this eclipse will be larger than next Thursday.
