“We start filming at the end of February,” reveals Reiner, who also directed the first “This Is Spinal Tap” in 1984. “Everyone is back. Paul McCartney and Elton John are participating. Garth Brooks will also be in the picture. And we have some surprises in store.” Reiner will not be directing the sequel alone. He also reprises his role as filmmaker Marty DeBerge, who tours with the fictional metal band Spinal Tap. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprise their roles as band members.
The first American rock music mockumentary has already been a huge success. “The only important thing is to find people who can improvise well. You have to have actors who feel good about it,” says Reiner. But he never dreamed that there would eventually be a sequel. “We didn’t even think about a second movie. But when we started talking to each other, we came up with an idea that we thought could work. “The bar is incredibly high,” he told NME last year. Nothing is known yet about the story of the second film. But one thing is for sure: the actors plan to have fun filming. “Look at us, we’re all in our 70s. Now is a good time to have more fun.”
