Jeremy Doku got off to a very good start at Manchester City, but has faded somewhat in the interim. His situation was discussed on 90Minutes, and the conclusion was that the Nationals' style of play is hindering his actions.
Pep Guardiola has brought in Doku sparingly recently. He was allowed to start in the match against Manchester United, but was substituted again after an hour.
“It is difficult for Doku to play for such a dominant team,” Philip Goss says on 90 Minutes. “He is looked for regularly, but as a player in a dominant team, there is always a second defender.”
Doku relieves Phil Foden, who plays on the other side and uses a defense that also has to focus on Doku. “Fuden can choose moments. For Dooku, moments are chosen.”
Although Joos also sees room for improvement. “Instead of walking to the backline, you first pass the ball to your teammate. This way you can exchange the ball and you can then move away from the ball when your teammate returns it.”
Although Goss sees a bright spot in the European Championship with the Red Devils. “It's very difficult for him when the defense is low,” says Philip Goss. “It may seem strange, but that's why I think he will play so freely at the European Championships.”
