Pink pelicans have been caught flying around the Dutch province of Brabant for several days. Beekse Bergen staff overpowered the bird while it was sleeping. The animal is tired and hungry, but healthy.

Animal ambulance staff had been trying to catch the pelican for a few days, but the animal kept running away when it saw the staff. The bird had already been seen on the golf course in Cromvoir and at Zwigensbergen Castle in Hilfuert.

Expert Jan Hartmann contacted Animal Ambulance on Sunday evening via social media. Hartmann was able to tell its entire history based on the animal's ring number. The pelican was born in Lithuania and lived in a Dutch zoo until 2019. The bird was then transferred to a zoo in Belgium, where it escaped two weeks ago.

After a search by animal ambulance personnel, it was discovered that the pelican had settled on the golf course in Vogt. Staff from Beekse Bergen came to help on Monday morning and overpowered the bird while it was sleeping. The animal was transported to Beekse Bergen, where it will be picked up by Belgian Zoo staff.

It is not known which zoo the pelicans escaped from.
