According to the poll, 86 percent of Americans say that Biden, who is 81 years old, is old. A smaller majority (62%) also thinks former President Donald Trump, 77, is too old. 59% of respondents consider both candidates to be too old for the presidency.
There is a big difference in how voters who strongly favor one of the two major parties view their presumptive presidential nominees. For example, 73% of Democrats think Biden is old, while only 35% of Republicans think Trump is old. Among voters with no party preference, 91% consider Biden to be old; 71% say the same about Trump.
The results of the new poll may have been influenced by a report issued last week by Republican Special Counsel Robert Hoare. It concluded that Biden should not be prosecuted for reckless handling of classified documents between 2017 and 2020, when he was no longer vice president and not yet president. But Hoare's report cast doubt on Biden's mental fitness. Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris called the report “politically motivated.”
