After 9 MMA fights, Oki Bolaji can make his debut this weekend on the biggest stage: the UFC. Not against the experienced Damir Hadzovic, who called off the match, but against another rookie: Timothy Koumba.
Just as a football player dreams of the Champions League, a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter hopes to one day compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). For Oke Bolaji, that dream became a reality this weekend.
The 'Zulu Warrior' got his coveted opportunity last summer and he is determined to seize it with both hands. “I'm mentally and physically ready for it. I can't wait for it,” he says on LowKick MMA.
Oki Bolaji had prepared to face Bosnian Damir Hadzovic, a 37-year-old veteran who has lost 3 of his last 4 fights. But the “Bosnian bomber” withdrew today.
At the last minute, the UFC called up 24-year-old Timothy Koumba as a replacement. The American was in the octagon last Friday and won by knockout. Kwamba also makes his debut.
The 28-year-old Bolaji is only the fourth UFC national. βI will become the new Belgian star,β he is convinced. βIt is an honor to represent my native Belgium.β
Oke Bolaji lost his professional MMA debut, but has since won eight straight (8-1). Will he now continue this streak in the UFC?
