Despite transfer issues surrounding his person, Sepp van den Berg has made his way to America, where Liverpool will be attending a training camp. PSV are still keeping their eye on the arrival of the 22-year-old central defender, who has also indicated his desire to leave. It was previously reported that Liverpool were also willing to cooperate with Van den Berg’s exit.

PSV have van den Berg high on their wishlist to strengthen their core defence. The Eindhoven squad said goodbye to Andre Ramalho and saw the injured Armando Obsibo in the build-up. As a result, the pool at the back is thin, leading to the option of adding another central defender.

At the previous stage, Liverpool wanted twenty million euros for van den Berg, who was taken from PEC Zwolle five years ago for one and a half million euros. According to Rick Elfring, PSV do not want to go above the maximum of sixteen million euros, so it remains to be seen if the people of Eindhoven can welcome van den Berg.

If Van den Berg’s transfer goes for sixteen million euros, it will mean that the 22-year-old will become PSV’s most expensive acquisition in the club’s history. The record is currently shared between Jerdy Schouten and Hirving Lozano, who both arrived from Bologna and Napoli last year for fifteen million euros respectively.

Van den Berg has now been included in the squad that traveled to America with Liverpool. This is because centre-back Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konade are still missing. In the center of defence, apart from van den Berg, Arne Slott also has Jarel Kwanza, Luke Chambers and Nathaniel Phillips at his disposal.
