It is undeniable that Rick Verhey and Sam Kerkhofs, owners of amateur club Sporting Hasselt, have injected a dose of oxygen into amateur football. The two BVs surprisingly took over the Limburg club and then began the Wrexham story, although that also took a lot of effort.
Promotional party with *
‘De Spor’ appears to be on its way to its first national title. Having previously lost the title (to rival Belezia), they scored last week on points against Ninov. After a very difficult match, Hasselt won 1-0.
Due to uncertainty over some licences, a place in the Football League Third Division is not yet completely certain, but a strong promotional party has already been launched. After a long and difficult season, there was great relief among Sporting Hasselt supporters.

Verheye and Kerkhofs appear to have enjoyed great success at Wrexham in Wales, with that club having won two successive promotions and been running a much-watched reality series on Disney+ for some time now. I’ve been able to watch ‘De Spor’ on Play for several months and now there will also be a four-part documentary about Hasselt Football Club.
Verhey admitted in an interview that the investments of the two famous Flemish people were not of little importance HLN. “I’m out of money. My accountant said it’s the worst investment ever. Well, that’s not our concern.”
“Sam and I entered football out of passion. Many clubs have been bought up by foreign investors – sometimes for money laundering – and are at risk of losing their identity as a local amateur club. This is a shame. We are focused on the local level.” “Entrenchment, youth giving opportunities.” This seems to be going very well at the moment.
