National coach Roberto Martinez received a lot of questions about the unfortunate Kevin De Bruyne at the first press conference.
“Kevin will usually have a week off with his family, but unfortunately this plan has changed. His condition is being monitored and he has to undergo a lot of tests,” says the national coach.
“Kevin has a double fracture, but he does not need surgery. With the surgery it was difficult for him to participate in the European Championships.”
“I’ve also spoken to Kevin and he sees it positively.”
Will De Bruyne be available from the first group match? “We don’t know yet. We are currently assessing his situation,” he added.
“In 4 to 5 days, we will have a better picture. But I really see it as more positive than just the final.”
How is this other kid, Axel Fitzel?
“Axel has been working hard for a long time to get back in shape. He did fieldwork last week. But he still has to go through some phases.”
“We will not let Axel play in the next matches. That is not our goal either. We want to make him fully fit against the third group match.”
Should Martinez note that Vetsel is not going to be decent in time. What’s Next? “Zenho Vanheusden, Brandon Michel and Albert Sambi-Luconga are ready to fill this position,” said the Spaniard. “Sambi-Lokonga has the same Witsel file.”
