Robot dog teaches itself to walk faster and breaks its speed record | Technique

A prototype of the MIT Mini Cheetah, a robotic dog from the American University of MIT, taught himself the most efficient way to walk and broke his own speed record. All this without human intervention. The robot dog’s speed record is now 14 kilometers per hour.

Use MIT Mini Cheetah File Learning Enhancement-the system. A robotic dog can also learn to handle unexpected situations, such as walking on loose gravel or slippery ice. Baby cheetah can also use simulation to learn. For example, a robot dog gains 100 days of experience in just three hours, says the development team.

Particularly remarkable is that the robot learns things without human intervention, which was not possible until recently. Researchers have always had to program machines in advance so that they can perform various tricks. This obviously created a lot of work when new tricks and moves had to be learned.

“One practical way to build a bot with different skills is to tell it what to do and let it know how to do it. Our system is an example of this,” say Gabriel Margulies and Ji Yang, two of the developers. The concept is now also being applied to other bot systems.
