Cameras are an important reason for many people considering the Samsung Galaxy S24. But what are the most important improvements that have occurred in the devices compared to their predecessors? We will explain them to you.

Samsung Galaxy S24 cameras
Are you buying a new smartphone mainly to take better photos? Then you might be interested in the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra cameras. How did Samsung improve it? We'll guide you through all the news.
S24 and S24 Plus: Nothing new under the sun
Will you get the Galaxy S24 or Galaxy S24 Plus? Then we have bad news: nothing has changed in the camera hardware compared to the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. You still get access to a 50MP main camera, a 12MP wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera. The latter makes the image 3x closer without losing quality.
The wide-angle lens and telephoto camera in particular have been around for several years. Samsung relies mainly on improved software to let you take better photos. However, it would be nice if the Galaxy S25 (Plus) actually got new cameras.

S24 Ultra: Less distance but better zoom
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a new camera. It is a telephoto lens that zooms the image by 5x without losing quality. It replaces the old 10-megapixel lens on the S23 Ultra that allowed you to zoom in by 10x.
This may seem like a step down, but the new camera has a much higher resolution of 50 megapixels. As a result, images still look great even when zoomed in at 10x. Then you use the middle part of the sensor.
This new telephoto lens also has an important advantage: if you zoom in by 6 or 7 times, for example, you can take much nicer photos than before. You can then zoom in from the 5x telephoto lens and therefore have to “crop” less. On the S23 Ultra, I used the 3x telephoto lens in this scenario. This often resulted in blurry images.
Nothing has changed on the other lenses. The main camera is again 200MP, although you can take standard 12MP shots using pixel binning. You also have a 12MP wide-angle lens and a second telephoto lens that zooms 3x.

Galaxy AI offers the most improvements
Very little has been optimized on hardware. However, Samsung is bringing a lot of news to the Galaxy S24's cameras. They have Galaxy AI. This is the collective name for all jobs that use artificial intelligence.
Whichever S24 you buy, you can easily move or even change the objects in your photo. We already knew this from the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which produce slightly better results (for now). In addition, it is possible to straighten images with a warped horizon and fill in missing parts using artificial intelligence. For example, this creates clouds or additional grass.
Another great feature is removing reflections in your shots. This also means that it doesn't always work flawlessly, but it can help. Finally, you can leave your photos Re-mastering. The software then takes a second look, as it were, and adjusts colors and contrast if necessary.
Incidentally, many AI functions will also soon be coming to older Galaxy S23 devices. So you don't necessarily have to buy an S24 for this purpose.
