It's not a palace revolution compared to the S23, but the Samsung Galaxy S24 still impresses with its AI functionality, new cameras and other top specs for the Ultra variant.
You could have guessed it already: Samsung has released phones powered by artificial intelligence. The focus of the ad is mainly on AI with the AI Assistant inside Samsung's Android shell. Striking: Bixby, the current voice assistant, is not mentioned.
We list the main AI features that the three Samsung Galaxy S24 models will support:
- Live Translation: Translate phone conversations in real time, without the need for an additional app
- Translator: Translate live conversations in real time on a shared screen
- Chat Help: Select a piece of text and ask to rephrase it in a specific style (informal, social, professional)
- Text Help: Transcripts, summaries and translations can be created from conversations
- Circle to Search: A brand new feature from Google, exclusive to the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24, where you can circle something in the app to search directly similar to Google Lens
- AI editing tools in Samsung Gallery: Create slow motion videos, move or delete an object, animal or person, and fill photos when cropped
All the above features are available for every device within the Galaxy S24 range. We almost forget that three devices were also announced. Overview:
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung's flagship is getting a subtle but comprehensive update. The bezels around the device have become a little more compact and the curved screen edge is a thing of the past. The 10x optical zoom (10 MP), which was previously alongside the 3x optical zoom (10 MP), has been deleted. It will be replaced by a 5x optical zoom, but with a 50-megapixel sensor. According to Samsung, this allows you to zoom in further than the 10x zoom variant, without sacrificing quality.
Each camera sensor, except for the 12MP wide-angle camera, has an optical image stabilizer (IOS). Fast Charging can be done via an optional Power Delivery compatible charger of up to 45W maximum. The battery capacity is 5000 mAh and there is a place in the housing for a stylus. The body is made of titanium like the iPhone 15 Pro.
For the rest, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra specifications are quite similar to its predecessor. The 6.8-inch OLED screen is again there with a variable refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz. This phone features Gorilla Glass Armor for the first time, which, according to Samsung, provides 75 percent less reflection in different lighting conditions.
New year, new chip: Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, tuned by the manufacturer for more performance. Side by side, you have 12GB of RAM and three storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. . This smartphone is the first from Samsung to support WiFi 7. All you need is a compatible WiFi 7 router to maximize wireless speeds.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be available from January 31 in four colors: grey, black, violet or yellow. Prices start from €1,449 including VAT.
Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus
The design of the larger Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus remains unchanged. Compared to the S24 Ultra, you don't get a titanium frame, no new zoom lens (but the standard 3x optical zoom) and no Qualcomm chip. In contrast, it has Samsung's own Exynos 2400 chip, without WiFi 7 (but WiFi 6E). The S24 has 8GB of RAM, while the Plus version has 12GB of RAM.
The Galaxy S24 has a built-in 6.2-inch display (OLED, 1 – 120 Hz, FHD+), while the larger S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch display (OLED, 1 – 120 Hz, QHD+). Both have a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 50MP main camera and a 10MP 3x optical zoom. Only the main camera works on iOS.
Just like the Ultra, you can charge the S24 Plus at 45W via an optional charger. The smaller S24 supports up to 25W. This year too, Samsung has little interest in jumping on the fast freight train.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will be available starting January 31 in four colors: black, grey, violet and yellow. The S24 starts at €899, and the S24 Plus starts at €1,149. Both prices include VAT.
