Following the criminal trial, interim compensation of €30,000 has already been awarded to actress Verlie Eckermans. She was attacked by Reno Hardy at her home in Zemst on 14 February 2015. He hit her with a broken wooden axe handle. Verlie Eckermans managed to cling to a pole and scream for help, alarming a neighbor and his son. At Hardy's trial, the actress gave courageous testimony.
After awarding temporary compensation, the court appointed an expert to evaluate Verle Eckermans' injuries. This expert report was submitted to the court in Antwerp last month. This morning the final compensation was awarded. The court reached an amount of 208,773 euros for permanent physical disability. Verle Eckermans had also requested moral compensation of 20,000 euros, but this request was rejected.
Veerle Eyckermans became known to the general public through her leading role in the TV series “Postbus”.
