In December, former PVDA minister Ronald Plasterk was appointed as an informant in the Netherlands, having previously been a scout. As an informant, Plasterk had discussions with Geert Wilders (PVV), Dylan Jeselgos-Zygerius (VVD), Peter Omtzigt (NSC), and Caroline van der Plas (BBB) about forming a new government.
In February, the National Security Council unexpectedly withdrew from the talks. This was announced by Peter Omtzgut in an interview with Dutch media, without the other negotiators and informant Plasterk knowing anything.
According to Omtzigt, there was no point in talking at that point anymore. He stated that the decision largely relates to the state of Dutch public finances. This will be more worrying than expected. Omtzigt accused Detective Plasterk of informing him about this too late.
Plasterk denied this and also accused Umtzigt of disrespecting the “Information Institute”. In the debate in the House of Representatives on the National Security Council resolution, Plasterk also said that Omtzigt used the informant’s official car to drive to a hotel in The Hague. There he told reporters that he would leave the negotiations. Umtzigt, in turn, was angry at this revelation.
