Alfons Hoppenbroers was a man of many uses: brother, teacher, architect and painter. As a civil engineer and architect, he completed several projects before he began designing the Weststrand Building. His contribution to architecture and art education is significant. Even toward the end of his career, he continued to actively contribute to the world of art, architecture, and urban planning, ultimately as a visual artist.

The choice of Galerij Lineair as the location for this exhibition is no coincidence. There is a historical connection with Hoppenbrouwers, and his work has been shown here before. It is cooperated with Lineair, Westrand's cultural partner and located within walking distance of the cultural centre Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA), which is loaning a number of key works from its extensive collection for the occasion.
