At Kruidvat they have listed a number of tips to address persistent sweat odor in clothes. For example, it is recommended to put clothes in a bucket of water and add vinegar. You leave them soaking overnight, and the next day you put the clothes in the washing machine. “Vinegar is a miracle product. After soaking, run a normal washing program and the sweat smell will disappear.”
Adding baking soda to the bucket of water instead of vinegar can also help. “Don’t use baking soda, use crystal soda. Rub the fabric where the smell of sweat is and leave it for half an hour.” Croidfat recommends. Then rinse the clothes and wash them in the washing machine.
Fabric softener
Kruidvat also recommends not using excessive amounts of fabric softener. “Fabric softener can remain in your clothes and the bacteria responsible for the odor of sweat remain in them.” So use less fabric softener and add some vinegar if necessary.
Finally, there are two ways to remove the smell of sweat. You can use a steam iron to blow steam on the area you want to treat. You can put the item of clothing in the refrigerator for a day, which will also help.
