Team USA has once again crossed the i’s and crossed the i’s. In the last group match at the Belgian Cats, there was a bit of a shock for the American stars. Germany won the first quarter, but the lead was decisive 68-87. The expected group winners are USA and runners-up Germany.
A moment of shock was corrected with excitement. In a back-and-forth battle for group victory, Germany got off to a flying start, with Team USA not sure what hit them.
After about 5 minutes, the German stormed to an astonishing score of 17-8. But then the American machine also started.
At the end of the first quarter, the deficit was already reduced to 19-16 in favor of Germany. America made all the difference in the second and third quarters.
It was determined for the team’s success that it was not only a matter of honor but also aimed at a favorable balance. The U.S. trailed the top-favored Germans 46-69 after three quarters. The match was played.
So they could take their foot off the accelerator again, allowing Germany to soften to 68-87 with the win in the last quarter. Thanks to their stunt against the Belgian cats, they are already assured of finishing second in the group.
But the group victory was as expected for the United States. They are aiming for an eighth Olympic gold in a row in Paris and will advance to the quarter-finals as winners of the group with the Cats.
