The 19-year-old talent from Visma-Lease a Bike becomes world champion in cross-country skiing

He's not just one of the best talents on the bike. Jürgen Nordhagen, Wout van Aert's teammate at Visma-Lease a Bike, has been crowned cross-country skiing world champion. Among the juniors, he won the 20-kilometer mass start with great force majeure.

Jørgen Nordhagen is a man with a great reputation in the peloton. The Norwegian is known as a great talent and was confirmed last season by winning the highly regarded Slam among the juniors and taking silver at the European Time Trial Championships in his age group.

Jumbo-Visma was quick to offer Nordhagen a multi-year contract at the end of 2022. Nordhagen will join the training squad this year, and will be promoted to the professional team in 2025.

However, the racing driver does not currently have to focus solely on cycling for his job.

Nordhagen also showed himself to be a talented cross-country skier in his youth and was at the start of the twenty-kilometre mass start in Planica, Slovenia, on Wednesday.

There he was crowned world champion by more than two minutes.

“We have a world champion,” the Visma-Lease a Bike training team tweeted proudly.

It's Nordhagen's last winter to put on his skis, and the focus will be entirely on cycling.

Next season, he will first compete with the promising Yellow Cycling squad, before moving to the World Tour in 2025.
