The Belgian men’s 4×400 meters won gold for the fourth time in the last 5 European Championships. With Alexander Dohm, the 400m individual champion, Belgium raced to the title with a time of 2:59″84. Less than half an hour earlier, the Belgian Panthers had also won a medal.
The Belgian Tornadoes’ dominance in European championships is unprecedented. Since 2012, he has not won gold at the last European Championships. Great Britain then defeated the Belgian men in a thrilling race for the silver medal.
In the race for a new title, Belgium entered two finals for the 400 meters individual race. Jonathan Sackur showed the Tornadoes the right path by first passing the baton to Robin Vanderbemden.
They fell back a little, but thanks to the good Dylan Burleigh, Belgium entered the final round as leaders. With the golden Alexander Dohm as the final runner, you knew then that it was almost certainly going to be bingo.
After a grueling European tournament that saw many matches – and the occasional pain – Doom still has enough money to win the spoils in a tyrannical fashion. With 2’59″84 they stayed just under the 3 minute mark.
Earlier this year, Team Tornado also became world champions in indoor competitions. It is their 17th medal at the European Championships (indoor and outdoor) and World Championships (indoor and outdoor) since 2010.
