The body of a 71-year-old hiker has been found in the wilderness of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains more than two months later. What’s remarkable: the white Jack Russell was still by his side loyally after all this time.

Rich Moore wanted to reach the summit of Blackhead Peak on August 19. The tour is 5 km long and runs along a steep, rocky hiking trail, the last part being unpaved.

Somewhere along the way, things must have gone wrong for Moore. The hiker remained missing for two and a half months until a fisherman discovered his body on October 30. Malicious intent seems unlikely.

A day later, emergency services were able to remove his remains from the inhospitable area. However, it turned out that he was not alone: next to him was Jack Russell Vinnie, watching. The loyal four-legged friend has been reunited with family after a medical examination.

“Man’s best friend”

Delinda Vanne-Brightyn was part of the rescue team that searched unsuccessfully for Moore. It testifies to the difficult (weather) conditions that made the expedition difficult. “We searched west from the top to where his car was parked. The wind was blowing so hard and it was so steep that we had to be dropped off by helicopter. He was eventually found much farther to the east. We are relieved that the family now knows for sure what Happened to him.

However, Vinny remains the bright spot in this sad story. He receives a lot of praise on social media. “Fortunately, Moore was not alone when he died. This is proof once again that a dog is man’s best friend.”
