It remains to be seen what the Disciplinary Board will decide after Tuesday’s session regarding the “Burgess case.” However, Union SG have no intention of leaving him in blue if the defender turns out to be suspended against Anderlecht.
Lawyer Walter Van Steenbrugge left little doubt. He stated that the club had given him permission to continue if the Disciplinary Board decided that Burgess had not served his suspension.
The statement noted: “I have received authorization from the club to initiate proceedings under Article 1382 of the Civil Code in relation to the damages I have suffered.” HLN.
“If Burgess had been allowed to play against Circle, but it had become impossible for him to play due to errors by the Union, there would have been damage and distortion of the competition. Burgess is an important player and Union lost to Circle.”
To add more details about the consequences that could result. “I say this without wanting to put pressure, but then I don't dare think about the consequences for the major champions' play-offs.”
According to Union, Burgess couldn't play because he couldn't even be listed among the available players in the E-Kickoff system. Union felt he could not play, but the federal prosecutor indicated that the appeal had a suspensive effect. Was it timely though?
