To be honest, the appearance of the Xiaomi SU7 is not a big surprise. In November, we were able not only to show the car from different angles, but also to tell you the first information about the electric car. Now there are more numbers. At 5 meters long, 1.96 meters wide and 1.46 meters low, the SU7 is comparable in size to a Porsche Taycan and, on paper, is equipped with powerful hardware.
Although the Xiaomi SU7 is fully electric, it still gets a V8 or V6 engine. What's up with that? Well, Xiaomi calls its electric motors the HyperEngine V8, HyperEngine V6S, and HyperEngine V6. The most powerful Xiaomi SU7 has a HyperEngine V8 powertrain. This consists – in the version with the addition of Max – of a 299 hp electric motor on the front axle and a 374 hp unit on the rear axle. This kit gives the SU7, which weighs more than 2,200 kilograms, a system power of 673 horsepower. There's a 101 kWh battery pack at the bottom. This combination helps the electric car reach a speed of 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds. Its maximum speed is 265 km/h. According to Xiaomi, the range should be 800 km, although this is determined according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is different from the WLTP method we use. This top version has Brembo brakes to smooth things out again.
The V6 electric motor makes 299 horsepower, and the SU7 with that electric motor is noticeably less quick, but still quite smooth. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds. At its base is a smaller 74.6 kWh battery that should provide a driving range of 668 kilometers (CLTC). The gap between Xiaomi's “V8” and “V6” versions is filled by the V6s. This is an electric motor with 374 hp.
The Xiaomi SU7 has a 16.1-inch foldable infotainment screen, a smaller digital instrument cluster and a head-up display with a diagonal of at least 56 inches. There are also eye-catching physical buttons for a car from the smartphone manufacturer. In the front of the SU7 there is a luggage compartment in which you can store 105 liters of things. Thanks to a wide range of cameras, sensors and other sensors, the SU7 should be able to closely monitor the environment and drive somewhat autonomously.
Xiaomi has high ambitions, but it is not yet known if and when the SU7 will arrive in Europe. More and more non-traditional car manufacturers are turning to developing electric vehicles. Although there has been talk about the arrival of an electric car from Apple for 10 years, the matter has not yet been achieved. The Chinese company Huawei established AITO in cooperation with the Chinese car brand Seres, and Sony wants to produce electric cars in cooperation with Honda.
