The McLaren Artura has been revamped and now also called the Spider

Three years ago, McLaren put its sports series aside for an all-new hybrid sports car: the McLaren Artura. It currently sits between the recently revealed McLaren GTS and the McLaren 750S. These two showed up in 2023 and suddenly made Artura a relative veteran. But now McLaren has an updated version ready. And not only that: there is now also an open version: Artura Spider.

We'll start with the innovations, because they also apply to the all-new Spider. The McLaren Artura's hybrid powertrain is now 20 hp more powerful: system power has increased from 680 hp to 700 hp, so it's closer to its sports sibling in this regard. The power surge is entirely attributable to the V6 engine, which has become even more powerful thanks to new calibration. The electric motor still produces 95 horsepower. Speaking of that electric motor, it can also propel the Artura completely autonomously. From now on this can be done for a distance of 33 km; Previously, the Artura had an electric driving range of up to 30 km. From the 0-100km/h sprint you won't notice that the McLaren Artura has become a little more powerful. This was still over in 3 seconds. However, it's a little quicker in medium-speed sprints and shifting with the eight-speed automatic should be a little smoother. Top speed is still 330 km/h.

More news? naturally. McLaren overhauled the Artura's exhaust system to make the V6 scream better. The suspension has also been improved, and the adaptive damping system should respond up to 90 percent faster. There are also new motor mounts and the brakes are better cooled. Overall, this should lead to Artura being more alert in corners than before. Not very relevant, but still fun: The Artura has the “Spinning Wheel Pull-Away” function known from Speedtails, with which you can rip dramatically with noisy tires. On the other hand, the McLaren Artura will have a wide range of safety systems, undoubtedly due to the more stringent EU regulations in this area. For example, lane departure warning, speed limit detection, and rear cross-traffic alert are now available.

McLaren Artura Spider

And perhaps the biggest news: the all-new open-top version of the McLaren Artura, the Spider. It has one roof section that can be opened and closed electrically. This can be done up to a speed of 50 km/h and it takes 11 seconds to open and close. The roof is also equipped with electrochromic glass, which allows you to determine the amount of light that enters when the roof is closed. This special roof is several kilograms heavier than the standard roof, adding 62 kilograms of weight to the Artura. This extra weight is only present in the roof: the Spider's base is identical to that of the Coupé. It is not reinforced further because its rigidity does not depend on the roof. McLaren promises the Spider is as solid as a coupe.

AutoWeek immediately presents prices for the updated McLaren Artura and the all-new Artura Spyder: the Artura costs at least 263,100 euros, and the McLaren Artura Spyder 289,500 euros.
