The Red Lions continue to perform flawlessly at the Olympics. In the penultimate group match, the Belgian hockey men tackled Canada with a heavy penalty kick: 9-1.
Belgium’s start was hesitant at first. Hendrix opened the score in the first quarter after a corner kick, but at the back the red lions missed a lot. In the last minute of the first quarter, Pearson already signed a tie.
Wiggins’ 2-1 win before halftime was a prelude to a fantastic third quarter for the Belgians. The Red Lions scored 5 goals in the third quarter.
With 7-1 on the scoreboard, the Belgians didn’t immediately recover gas. The returning Boone, who was fit again after injury, was able to refuel with a goal after a corner kick. After Van Opel won 9-1, Belgium pressed for the 10th goal, but didn’t get that far.
The Red Team will face Great Britain in their last group task on Friday, and the quarter-final matches will take place on Sunday.
