Wout van Aart appears to have taken an important step in his rehabilitation. Belgian from Visma | Lease a Bike – which crashed hard at Dwars Door Vlaanderen – has been spotted several times in recent days on the Zwift training platform. Although Van Art maintains strict secrecy regarding this matter.
Several Zwift rides have been completed on his account in recent days, but Van Aert ultimately decided not to put those rides on Zwift or Strava. The 29-year-old Belgian's last Zwift ride was on public dates as of February 22.
However, it's clear on his Zwift account that Van Aert has ridden the bike a few times since then: This is just a general matter. In the past 30 days, he has covered a distance of 142 kilometers (digital) in a time of four hours and 23 minutes. Since Van Aert usually shares everything on Zwift, it looks like he's been active in recent days.
Van Aart announced last week that he “can't train at all at the moment”, but it now appears he is taking serious steps in his rehabilitation process. A debut in the Giro d'Italia comes too early for the classic specialist, due to his heavy crash at Dwars Door Vlaanderen.
He broke his collarbone, sternum and several ribs, meaning Van Aart was unable to take part in his two main goals of the spring: the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. “I'm very disappointed because I also had to miss my second main goal (the Giro, ed.) of the season. But now I have to put my health first. I have to give my body time to recover.”
