Anyone who was hoping we’d get a new Nintendo Switch this year is in for a treat. According to the latest reports, the Nintendo Switch 2, as the console is currently called, won’t be available until April 1, 2025 at the earliest, which is later than the company originally planned.
Why is this important?
It’s been since 2017 since the original Nintendo Switch was released. Fans have been looking forward to a more modern successor for some time now. Although rumors have been circulating for some time, it was only a few months ago that Nintendo confirmed that it was indeed working on one. So this new delay seems to be a serious setback not only for gamers, but also for the Japanese gaming company itself.nintendo switch 2
In the news: Chris Dring, President of GamesIndustry.biz, on his podcast, via VGCDevelopers are reportedly not expecting to release the Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year. That year ends on March 31, 2025.
- This news is eye-catching. Back in May, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa announced that we would get an announcement about the Switch 2 before that day.
- According to Dring, this official announcement is likely to come in April or May 2025. There is a chance that Nintendo will share a very small teaser about its new console before then.
Despite these increasingly concrete plans for the Switch 2, Nintendo doesn’t seem to be planning to stop supporting the original Switch. The company has recently announced several new games for the console. With around 170 million units sold, there’s a lot of Switch users.
