Piscatella previously reported that more Switch hardware will soon be sold due to the arrival of Hyrule Edition on the Nintendo Switch Lite this September. He expects the console’s launch to reasonably boost Switch sales in the US.
While the Switch has the potential to surpass PlayStation 2 sales in the US, former PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan expects it will take some time for the Switch to overtake the PS2’s global sales. That’s because the Switch has now sold 143 million units, while the PlayStation 2 has sold no less than 160 million. In addition, Nintendo’s operating results from last quarter showed that sales of the Switch are stagnating significantly as many wait for the release of the successor. For example, the Switch sold only 2.1 million units between April 1 and June 30, 2024. Last May, Nintendo announced that it would announce a Switch successor by the end of this fiscal year (which ends in March 2025).
