Forty out of the 500 richest French people participate in Belgian companies for 20 billion euros. About half of them choose to live in Belgium. This is what “De Tijd” writes.
Ten of the 100 richest French individuals or families have interests worth €15 billion in companies with registered offices in Belgium. This is evident from a study conducted by “Liko”. The newspaper launched a ranking of the 500 largest French fortunes, according to the magazine “Challenges”. An additional €5 billion is added when names between one hundred and five hundred on the list are also included.
In total, forty out of 500 of the richest French people participate in Belgian companies for 20 billion euros. About half of them reside in Belgium. This French interest in our country is still the result of the so-called wealth tax, introduced by former French President François Hollande.
The most striking name is that of Bernard Arnault, CEO of luxury holding LVMH. He attempted to naturalize himself as Belgian, but this met with enormous criticism in France. I’ve backtracked on it. This does not change the fact that part of his capital is flowing to Belgium.
